Divorce

We work closely with men and women at all stages of a divorce, from the decision to file through post-judgment requests for modification or enforcement of existing orders. We represent either side in a divorce, handling all issues that may arise, including:

  • Child custody and child placement (visitation). We will help you establish and implement custody and visitation arrangements that are in the best interests of the child while protecting your rights as a parent.
  • Child support. We will help you understand the Wisconsin child support guidelines and review any proposed support orders to ensure that they comply. We will also verify that all relevant income is properly considered, including self-employment or commission-based income.
  • Alimony or spousal maintenance. We will work with you to determine whether spousal support or maintenance is necessary and, if so, how much should be paid and for how long. We will help you understand the factors considered by the court and give you a realistic assessment of what to expect.
  • Division of marital debts and assets. We will help you understand Wisconsin’s marital property laws and work with you to develop an equitable distribution of all debts and assets, such as real property, bank accounts and investments, retirement assets, and business property.

Grandparents’ Rights

Where one or both biological parents are deceased or in jail, or if a parent has remarried and the step parent refuses access to the child, we can help. We represent grandparents seeking visitation rights with their grandchildren. We also represent parents resisting grandparent visitation.

Adoptions

We will assist you throughout the entire adoption process, helping you complete all the necessary documentation to formally adopt a child and be your advocate in all hearings or proceedings. We handle both domestic and stepparent adoptions, including voluntary or involuntary termination of parental rights.

Prenuptial Agreements

If you are considering getting married and will be bringing substantial assets into the marriage or have children from a prior marriage that you want to protect, we can help you prepare and implement a prenuptial agreement. Such an agreement will determine the distribution of assets should the relationship not work out. Contrary to what many believe, a prenuptial agreement can strengthen a marriage, by allowing the parties to minimize worry about financial matters down the road. Post-Judgment Divorce Actions

Many divorced individuals require assistance after their divorce has finalized to address issues such as modification of physical placement, modification of child support, or modification of maintenance. Some individuals have issues with regards to receiving compensation of medical expenses and variable expenses from their ex-spouse. If your life has changed in a drastic way since your divorce, you have lost your job, you would like to move, you found out your ex-spouse got a raise, etc., we can assist you in determining if you have a post-judgment case.

Marital Property Agreements

Our attorneys are well versed in drafting both pre-marital prenuptial agreements and post-marital postnuptial agreements. Prenuptial agreements can help protect an individual’s pre-marital assets, real estate, retirement accounts, and other assets within an agreement signed prior to marriage. A postnuptial agreement can be formed after marriage to protect assets in a similar manner to a prenuptial agreement. Our attorneys are happy to meet with individuals to discuss the benefits of prenuptial and postnuptial agreements.

Personal Property/Real Property Division
